Black Mountain is a place that had always been considered sacred. Not many people dare to go into this place. Now, where alienated it to be opened. The road began to be made and the problems of water shortages should be addressed immediately. Unfortunately this decision was disturbing the residents of Black Mountain are invisible to the naked eye.

Slowly the road construction workers began to feel frightened and left the Black Mountain. All? Apparently not. Caichen Ning (Yu Shaoqun) was not afraid. He still works even though people say the place was haunted. Ning is not in fact do not believe in ghosts. Instead he had experienced adverse events as a child. Ning's father was killed creatures unseen eyes. The problem Ning was assigned by his superiors to address the problem of water shortage there.

Ning Persistence is obviously to make the ghosts angry residents of Black Mountain. Xiao Qian (Yifei Liu) set off to scare Ning so that it goes from Black Mountain. December 9, 1937, the city of Nanking in Japanese army siege. Looks like the Chinese capital is no hope anymore. Blood flood will inundate the city and who knows how many thousands of lives that would be a victim. Although there was no hope but Chinese soldiers still would not give up.

Beijing and Shanghai and has collapsed and was under Japanese rule. When Nanking fell then there is no hope anymore. Lu Jianxiong (Liu Ye) and several other Chinese troops are still trying to survive even though they lost weaponry. At the same time, Mr. Tang (Fan Wei)'m sure if he'd survived the Japanese army when he managed to enter the international safety zone.

Among residents of the city of Nanking also have a female teacher named Jiang Shuyun (Gao Yuanyuan), who desperately tried to save as many people as possible. When Lu Jianxiong could no longer defend Nanking, increasingly falling victim lives. When it's over, no less than 300 thousand lives have been lost due to atrocities the Japanese army.

Mu Myeong (Cho Seung-Woo) falls in love with someone who could not possibly have had. Myeong Mu was a guard at the royal Joseon. There was no way he could alongside Ja Yeong (Soo-ae), daughter of the king. But this fact does not make love thy Myeong outages.

A few years later Ja Yeong should start preparing to become the wife of King Gojong (Kim Young-Min). Hoping to get closer to the princess, Mu Myeong also volunteered to be a personal bodyguard Ja Yeong. Their relationship is getting closer but still only thy Myeong Ja Yeong can not have that now been dipersunting by the king.

Not long later, the Koreans began a struggle between Russia and Japan both want control of the region. Worse yet, Dae Won Kun (Cheon Ho-Jin), the father turned out to vote in favor of Gojong foreign powers and secretly gave approval to kill Ja Yeong. Now Thy Myeong must choose between obeying the royal command and protect the woman he loved.

Buddha Mountain charts the stories of three teenage drop-outs, Ding Bo (Chen Po-lin), Nan Feng (Fan Bingbing) and Fei Zao (Fei Long), and their middle-aged landlord, a retired Peking opera singer (Sylvia Chang) who has lost her son in a car accident. There’s no nudity and no overtly political references, factors that surely helped it pass the censors’ keen eyes. The drama mainly revolves around the quartet as they clash over values, romance and the generational divide, only resolved when the four travel together to a mountain to help rebuild a temple destroyed during the Sichuan earthquake.

Beautiful Women of China represents a 3-DVD set of traditional Chinese movies,each featuring a beautiful star, and each a movie unto its own. By far, Gong Li in "Ju Dou" is the best of the triparte. She plays the wife of a husband who owns a silk dying factory. He tortures her day and night requesting that she bear him a son but can't really do his part so he takes it out of her by tying her down and beating her. She falls for one of the hired help ala Lady Chatterly's Lover who gives her a son, yet the husband claims it to be his. The rest of the plot thickens and you can imagine how it develops.

Gong Li is fascinating to watch -- beautiful in face and body and plays the character well both in the verbal and non-verbal parts. Xia Lu, stars in the second DVD called Endless Way. This is a long, torturous movie of a village high up in the mountains that get their water from down below in a cistern that is slowly drying up. A push is made to tunnel through the mountain to bring water. I ached just watching the women and men carry water in wooden barrels up from the cistern and over narrow pathways to get this precious commodity to their village. Some of it gets spilled, barrels fall apart -- such as life.

The secondary title of this movie might be to "bear and forbear." The third DVD is a little more modern and urbane. Life Show stars Tao Hong, another beautiful, glamorous actress who takes on the role of caring for her nephew and drug addicted brother following her mother's death. The movie takes place in a small restaurant in Shanghai. If you are into understanding Chinese culture, its nuances, geographical diversity, cinematography, etc., then buy this 3-DVD Set. The beauty of these three actresses is in their acting skills and outward appearance. American movie goers might find these three films a little exasperating.

Enjoyable Film With James Kyson Lee in the Lead,

James Kyson Lee proves he can carry a film as a leading man. Fortunately, he's also in good company with fellow actors to share the screen with, an amusing script that allows for physical comedy (mostly physical reactions) and a director who knows how to move the story along.

Jim Lee (JKL) was due to be married to the woman he loved, only she's run off with the Filipino DJ who was going to be performing at their reception. If you're not familiar with Chinese culture, it's like pouring salt onto an open wound. A friend takes him on trip to get away from it all and it's there he meets a wouldbe girlfriend. Unfortunately, Jim has also asked his friend (who happens to be an assassin) to murder him before Valentine's Day. With the date looming just ahead and the potential for love on the horizon, anything could happen.

The only complaint I had was the dramatic and somewhat violent final act that felt as if it came out of nowhere before settling back down. Fortunately, it doesn't last as long as it could have and doesn't take away from the film much.

All in all, very enjoyable, especially with Composer George Shaw's score complimenting it.

The kick is never shown, but the entire film is based around it. It's winter in the remote Shaanxi province. Pregnant Qiu Ju (Gong Li, 2046) is married to laidback farmer Qinglai (Liu Pei Qi). Clad in a bulky jacket, face partially obscured by a thick scarf, the strong-willed woman, joined by sister-in-law Meizi (Yang Liu Chun), travels far and wide to find someone who can coerce Wang to apologize (she asked, he refused). All agree the chief was in the wrong, but each authority with whom she meets hands her off to another. Along the way, the couple is offered financial compensation (for medical care and lost wages), but an apology is as elusive as a dragonfly in December. Taking cues from both Frank Capra (Mr. Smith Goes to Washington) and Vittorio De Sica (Bicycle Thieves), Zhang Yimou (House of Flying Daggers) presents modern-day China as a country where bureaucrats run the show and the citizens--especially the women--must suffer the consequences. Fortunately, some are more persistent than others, and The Story of Qiu Ju is far from tragic. Just as their fifth pairing represents one of Yimou's rare contemporary efforts, the dressed-down title character is also an anomaly for Li, his real-life love at the time.
